It's hard to find a place that's wilder than Mull, but get the ferry to Morvern or Ardnamurchan and you might be in luck. Head to Sanna bay for a pure white beach and turquoise seas, or climb up Ben Hiant in Ardnamurchan for panoramic views of Mull, Coll, Skye and the Small Isles. The wildlife includes seals, dolphins, whales, otters, golden and white-tailed eagles, red deer, pine marten and wildcats so keep an eye out as you walk.
There's a thriving otter population: look out for them from the ferry to Lochaline on Morvern. The Lochaline sea loch is the perfect otter habitat: river banks and rocky coasts, and because the Morvern and Ardnamurchan have remained relatively untouched by modern life, they make a perfect place for a wild adventure.

How to get here
You can drive from Fort William, or get one of the ferries from Mull.
You can travel by ferry from Tobermory on Mull to Kilchoan on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, which takes 35 minutes or by ferry from Fishnish on Mull to Lochaline on the Morvern Peninsula, which takes 18 minutes. You can purchase tickets in advance of travel, online.
Tobermory - Kilchoan and Fishnish - Lochaline are Turn up and Go routes - when you pre-purchase tickets on this route, you'll be purchasing an 'open' ticket for a chosen departure date, valid for the season in which you've purchased it, but it won't have a specific sailing time. Simply turn up at the port of departure and go No advance booking is necessary on this sailing. Simply turn up at the port of departure, go on the next available sailing and buy a ticket on board.

Travelling without a car
By bus
Shiels Buses run limited buses service (Monday to Saturday). Pick-ups at the bus shelter opposite car lanes and connect with Fort William. Check out our Journey Planner for more details.
By foot
Ardnamurchan and Morvern are most westerly points on the British mainland. This amazing part of the West Coast of Scotland offers magnificent views along the coastline. Walking in Ardnamurchan and Movrern has a little something for all levels. From casual 30 minute walks through Sunart Oakwoods, to the slightly more challenging walks through the mountains and passed the old lead mines.
By bike
Ardnamurchan and Morvern have a range of cycling routes from leisurely short paced rides to long distance marathons to highly advanced mountain rides. Sunart Oakwoods alone has 11 off-road cycle routes ranging from 3km to 64km. There are also plenty of road routes that also range between short and long distance, and take in areas such as Fort William, Corran, and Ardnamurchan.
